Gauntlets

Gloves with a cuff extending up the forearm to cover the lower portion of a motorcycle jacket sleeve are called gauntlets; occasionally gauntlets cover only the forearm (just as greaves cover only the shin). But in either length, gauntlets offer added protection for the wearer's forearm and wrist.

While they may be made of fabric, chain mail or metal, most are made of leather (cowhide, horsehide or goat). Thick black leather gauntlets are standard gear for many police, bikers and leathercops.

By covering even more of the wearer's flesh and layering leather on leather, gauntlets enhance the anonymity of the man in the leather gear and suggests a heightened aggressive, masculine attitude when worn correctly.

Like many Leathercop trappings, they loudly proclaim 'DON'T FUCK WITH ME'. They are also a visual turn on for both participants in GOM scenes.

The Raber glove company makes beautiful heavy horsehide gauntlets (shown below). These gloves can also be ordered from Leather Gloves Online in San Francisco.
