Gilbert III 02
More Gilbert III (Gilbert Martinez III). No idea where these images were originally published (if they ever were). They've been collected from the web over the course of several years without provenance. Almost certainly not from back issues of Muscular Development, though, first because of the subject matter and second because they're in colour.

Gilbert Martinez, or Gilbert II as he was known, did indeed illustrate the pages of Muscular Development. But these were examples of art that either were rejected by the editors like Gordon Venables or privately commissioned.
ReplyDeleteHe apparently passed away in Santa Monico in the late seventies. I know of no collection of his work. In some physique magazines prior to MD his drawings only appeared as miniature sketches in the margins of the text.
