PR-24 Side-handle baton

A side-handle baton has a short side handle about six inches long fixed at a right angle to the main baton shaft. The best-known side-handle baton is the Monadnock PR-24 (generally called the PR-24). Some users also call them nightsticks or T-batons.

PR-24s are made of a variety of materials, including aluminum, epoxy, polycarbonate, or wood. On better-made models, the side-handle is fused to the shaft during construction to create a single solid unit.

There is also a collapsible version of the PR-24.

  • Hold a PR-24 by the long end with the handle facing out to catch a long swung weapon.
  • Hold a PR-24 by the side handle with the long shaft held against your hand and forearm to shield your arm.

Many claim that the typically defensive stance used with the PR-24 presents a friendlier, less aggressive image than a straight baton.

I don't know about that, but it sure looks pretty damn good from here.
